Featuring 30-plus design professionals, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design returns at the storied Bauer Estate & Gardens, inviting lovers of all things beautiful to explore the artfully curated spaces of the historic property. The 1928 Monterrey Colonial estate, which recently wrapped four months of renovations, was designed by architect Reginald D. Johnson and built by Peter Hall. Running through May 18, 2025, the 60th celebration of design spotlights regional talent—from Los Angeles to San Francisco—with nature-inspired themes woven throughout most of the home's 18 rooms and expansive grounds. Here, we sample some of the standout spaces that speak to today's design trends.
Inside This Year's Pasadena Showcase Home
The Fountain Garden Court
Welcoming guests in elevated-yet-understated style, Timothy John Palcic of TimothyJohnLA uses symmetrical plantings and a palette of greens, silvers and blues at the home’s entrance, while pops of color infuse a sense of playfulness into the landscape.
Bauer Parterre Potager
Part cut-flower garden, part vegetable garden, Chia-Ming Ro’s dreamy landscape (pictured) caters to the senses and nods to California’s climate with native and drought-resistant plantings. The landscape designer behind Coastal Homestead was charged with two outdoor scenes, with the second being a vibrant rose garden that blends landscape, shrub and tree roses that creates a stunning display.
The Grand Living Room
The team at Peltier Interiors looks to classic estate interiors for their take on a traditional space. Intricate custom latticework on the walls adds depth and a touch of informality to the room, while a palette of blue, green, and white keeps the atmosphere light and inviting.
The Morning Room
Swathed in blue and white, the octagonal room by the Samantha Williams Interior Design team wows with hand-blocked striped hydrangea wallpaper and ceiling panels accented with blue grasscoth and grosgrain ribbon.
Ladies’ Powder Room
Rust tones reign in this cozy powder room by Jennifer Bevan Interiors where architectural details—from a stately vanity to custom built-ins—shine. A moody color palette, hand-painted botanical wallpaper and luxe materials come together to create a space that’s equally functional and sumptuous.
Gentleman’s Study
Adding layers of charm and character, Carmine Sabaterra of Carmine’s Design and Décor chooses a maximalist route for this whimsically masculine office space featuring a moody landscape scene.
The Guest Suite
Bright floral wallpaper is the first feature to catch your eye in the cheerful guest suite by Karen Billman of Billman Designs. Plaids, blues and greens play off the bold focal point to create a cozy haven for visitors.
Flower Room
Designing the ultimate retreat for floral arranging (or just a little quiet time), Noelle Djokovich of Gex Designs brings the outdoors in with latticework, botanical wallpaper and a dreamy green that subtly echoes the function of the space.
The Carriage House
Talk about a character-filled space. Kirsten Blazek of A 1000x Better beautifully blends vintage and modern details in the private guest house with an earthy palette that nods to the home’s history and lush landscape.
Garden Studio and Washroom
The cottagecore vibes are strong in this subtly verdant space by Beatriz Rose of Beatriz Rose Design. Antique pieces, restored cabinetry and artisan details come together for a look that’s meant to be whimsical and inviting.
The 60th edition of the celebration of design runs through May 18, 2025 and supports local music and arts programs Gifts & Grants, Music MobileTM, Instrumental Competition, and Youth Concert. Tickets are available at pasadenashowcase.org.
